I call these the "hangover glasses". Why?
Ten years ago, I spent a few days in Wicklow,
Ireland, the homestead of a community of
travellers. Some of the best Irish pipers of
the 19th and early 20th century were part
of this community and I spent an hour at a
nearby graveyard to make pictures of the
graves of these pipers. In the evening I entered
a pub and it soon turned out that this was the
regular evening for the travelling community.
My music was well appreciated and I was
invited in many corners of the pub so that
each table could have its own private little
concert. Pints of Guinness were offered in a
generous way, resulting in a minor headache
in the morning. I decided to take a walk around
the town and discovered these beautiful glasses
in the window of a charity shop.
