Nel 166
This portrait of Nel in vintage 1950's myodiscs
reminds me of my aunt Minnie, a distant relative.
She had curly hair and extremely strong minus
glasses not unlike these. I'm not sure if her glasses
were myodiscs, but her looks in them were quite
intriguing to me as a child. I avoided staring at her
as she might have felt uncomfortable, but the image
always remained. Girls and women in myodiscs were
not rare in the streets of Amsterdam in the 1950's.
Contact lenses only became widely available in the
mid 1960's. Thank you, dear Nel, for bringing back
the images and memories of my childhood!
