Story continued.... I have to confess that the
art student was a bit disappointed by my
project, but she stayed anyway and that was
the main thing.
Back in the 1970's, without the internet, it was
much harder to obtain pictures of ladies in
prescription glasses. I spent about two years
collecting photos and then assembled them in
a huge "collage", showing all the eyeware styles
of the time. The collage was built around seven
archetypes and the most attractive portraits
were near the middle which was filled with two
round mirrors. The mirrors looked like huge
glasses.
I explained to the art student that she combined
what was best in all the seven styles of eyeware.
She did not like her glasses at all, so we started
experimenting, buying at least one new pair each
year. A purple Piave, a green Dior, two beautiful
black & white Alain Mikli glasses, and so on. The
great thing about it was that she came to terms with
her minus six myopia when she discovered that
well chosen glasses really add something special
to a face.
By the way, the reason she was disappointed by
my project was that I was not the photographer of
the photos in the collage!
