These big rimless glasses were very much a
product of their time. There were no high index
lenses in the early 1980's and as a result, the
lenses in these glasses are 8-9 mm thick at the
edges. Some extra work has been done on the
lens edges here to reduce the effect of "extreme"
thickness. This results in an extra image of the
model's right eye.
My ex-wife bought a pair similar to these around
1980 in her slightly higher Rx (-6). We could not
afford the extra cost and she was unhappy about
remarks of strangers about her "strong, thick"
glasses. Nowadays, lenses at Rx -4 to -5 are
only 3-4 mm "thick".
